PADDLE SAFE – PADDLE SMART Sat. May 5th

The Lakes Region Sail and Power Squadron, with Wild Meadow Canoes and Kayaks, will be holding an "Operation Paddle Smart" program, open to all, as part of their Spring Meeting. It is not the public boating course required by New Hampshire, but will focus on the escalating sports of Canoeing, Kayaking, and Stand Up Paddling with an emphasis on safe paddling practices for kayakers. STAND UP AND BE COUNTED

Stand up paddling is here on Lake Winnipesaukee. It's a fun exercise with aerobic benefits and the safety feature of increased visibility. For flat water paddling, The SUP board should have a bow shape to displace water. Displacement hulls give you straight tracking for easier balance and control. This sport does require serious balance, but anyone can do it. Starting slowly, you shift your weight from your knees to your feet.
